From the Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru “Santenots” 2020 produced by Domaine Faiveley expresses the full finesse and elegance of great Volnay Pinot Noir. From this renowned climat, located on the border with Meursault, the wines combine Volnay’s floral delicacy with a slightly richer and more structured profile.

The 2020 vintage, sunny yet well balanced, shows excellent fruit ripeness while retaining precise freshness. The nose opens on aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry, complemented by floral notes of peony and violet, along with subtle spicy and lightly oaky nuances. With time, more complex hints of undergrowth and delicate tea emerge.

On the palate, the attack is silky and elegant. The structure remains refined, supported by delicate tannins and a fine tension that extends the finish. The whole is harmonious and precise, with good persistence on red fruit and a subtle mineral touch.

The Estate

Domaine Faiveley

Domaine Faiveley is one of Burgundy’s major wine houses, founded in 1825 and today run by the Faiveley family. The estate owns an extensive vineyard heritage spanning the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune, and the Côte Chalonnaise.

The climat Les Santenots, located in the commune of Meursault but within the Volnay appellation, is one of the rare terroirs producing red Volnay 1er Cru wines on clay-rich soils. This gives wines that are more structured and deeper than most other Volnay climats.

The estate’s philosophy is based on precise vineyard work and parcel-by-parcel vinification, aiming to preserve the identity of each terroir. Ageing is adapted to each cuvée in order to maintain balance between fruit, finesse, and structure.
