Haut-Mazeyres – Enclos 21, Pomerol
Located in the heart of the Pomerol appellation, on the right bank of Bordeaux, Haut-Mazeyres – Enclos 21 follows the traditional style of the region, where Merlot plays a central role. Grown on soils combining clay, gravel, and traces of iron-rich deposits, this wine reflects the depth and richness typical of the Pomerol plateau.
The blend is dominated by Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and occasionally Cabernet Sauvignon depending on the vintage. This results in a structured and harmonious wine. Ageing in oak barrels brings a subtle woody touch without overpowering the fruit.
On the nose, aromas of ripe black fruits such as blackberry and blackcurrant emerge, along with spicy and lightly toasted notes. With age, hints of truffle, undergrowth, and chocolate may develop.
On the palate, the attack is smooth, with a round and generous texture. The tannins are present but well integrated, giving a silky mouthfeel and a long finish. This is a Pomerol that is both generous and serious, capable of ageing for several years while remaining approachable in its youth after decanting.
This wine pairs beautifully with red meats, slow-cooked dishes, roast poultry, and mushroom-based recipes, in a classic Bordeaux style.
Located in Libourne, in the heart of the Pomerol appellation, Château Enclos Haut Mazeyres is a family-owned wine estate whose history dates back to 1830. Passed down through generations, it is now managed by Marianne de Pedro, who continues a winemaking tradition rooted in respect for heritage and terroir.
The vineyard covers approximately 9 hectares in a single block surrounding the château. The vines, averaging 40 to 60 years of age, are planted on clay and iron-rich gravel soils typical of Pomerol, giving the wines their depth and distinctive structure.
The estate is predominantly planted with Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and a small proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon. This grape selection produces wines that combine roundness, aromatic complexity, and finesse.
Committed to environmentally conscious viticulture, the estate has been certified High Environmental Value (HVE) since 2019. Vineyard work focuses strongly on biodiversity, soil health, and reduced use of inputs.
In the cellar, winemaking is carried out using traditional methods, with ageing in French oak barrels lasting 18 to 24 months depending on the cuvée. This approach allows each parcel’s identity to be expressed while preserving the elegance of the fruit.
The estate produces several cuvées, including Château Enclos Haut Mazeyres, EHM, and L’Héritage 1830, each expressing a different facet of the Pomerol terroir.
