L’If 2021 is a great wine from Saint-Émilion, crafted under the direction of Jacques Thienpont, also the owner of the legendary Le Pin in Pomerol. Sourced from an exceptional terroir and made with the same uncompromising focus on precision, it offers an elegant and refined expression of Saint-Émilion.
The 2021 vintage stands out for its freshness, finesse and balance. The nose reveals aromas of red and black fruit, fresh plum, violet and delicate spicy notes. On the palate, the wine is precise and silky, with fine tannins and beautiful tension. The freshness brings vibrancy and energy, while the finish is long, elegant and persistent.
With greater emphasis on finesse and freshness than on power, L’If 2021 offers excellent ageing potential and will gain further complexity with additional years of bottle ageing.
An elegant and precise Saint-Émilion, where freshness, depth and finesse come together with all the exacting standards that characterise the Thienpont family.
Located in Saint-Émilion, Château L’If is owned by Jacques Thienpont, also the owner of the legendary Le Pin in Pomerol. Acquired in 2010, the estate was established with the ambition of creating a great wine from an exceptional terroir, applying the same high standards of precision and quality that characterise the wines of the Thienpont family.
The vineyard covers approximately 8 hectares, divided into several plots with predominantly limestone and clay-limestone soils. These exceptional terroirs bring depth, freshness and elegance to the wines.
L’If is planted predominantly with Merlot and Cabernet Franc, two emblematic grape varieties of Saint-Émilion. Low yields, meticulous vineyard management and plot-by-plot vinification allow the distinctive characteristics of each terroir to be expressed to their fullest.
Under the direction of Jacques Thienpont, Château L’If has quickly established itself as one of the most notable estates in Saint-Émilion. Its wines are distinguished by their depth, finesse and remarkable ageing potential.
An estate with a relatively young history, yet already recognised for the exceptional quality of its terroirs and the exacting standards applied to its winemaking.
