Penfolds Bin 169 Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
The Penfolds Bin 169 Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 is a red wine sourced from the prestigious vineyards of South Australia, primarily from the Coonawarra region, renowned for its iron-rich red soils (terra rossa), which are particularly well-suited to Cabernet Sauvignon.
The 2019 vintage reflects a style that is both precise and structured, true to Penfolds’ philosophy: concentrated yet balanced wines with strong ageing potential. The climatic conditions allowed for slow and even ripening, enhancing aromatic intensity while preserving freshness.
Ageing in French oak barrels adds an additional layer of complexity, with integrated oak notes and a polished texture.
On the nose, aromas of cassis, blackberry, and black plum are complemented by notes of cedar, graphite, eucalyptus, and gentle spice. On the palate, the wine is dense and structured, with fine but present tannins, excellent concentration, and a long, persistent finish.
This is a modern, international-style Cabernet Sauvignon combining power, precision, and significant ageing potential, capable of evolving gracefully over 15 to 25 years depending on storage conditions.
Penfolds – Estate
The Penfolds is one of Australia’s most iconic wine estates, founded in 1844. Historically based at Magill Estate, near Adelaide in South Australia, it is now an internationally renowned wine house, known for flagship wines such as Grange and its Bin range.
The estate owns and operates vineyards across several prestigious South Australian regions, including Barossa Valley, Coonawarra, McLaren Vale, and Adelaide Hills. This diversity of terroirs enables the production of wines with remarkable complexity and consistency.
Penfolds is well known for its “multi-terroir blending” approach, where grapes from different regions are combined to create wines with a precise, powerful, and highly controlled style. Cabernet Sauvignon plays a particularly central role, especially in the Bin and Icon ranges.
The winery and winemaking team play a key role in blending and ageing, using carefully managed oak (both French and American) to contribute to the wines’ signature structure and refined oak profile.
Today, Penfolds is considered a global benchmark producer, crafting wines that are powerful, polished, and built for long-term ageing.
