Originating from the Pessac-Léognan appellation on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, Haut-Bailly II is the second wine of the prestigious Château Haut-Bailly, a Grand Cru Classé of Graves. It benefits from the same gravel and clay terroir, as well as the same meticulous care in the vineyard and winery, while offering a more accessible expression of the estate’s style.
The 2020 vintage was an outstanding year in Bordeaux, marked by favourable weather conditions that allowed optimal grape ripeness and excellent aromatic concentration.
The blend is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and a small proportion of Cabernet Franc. The nose opens on aromas of black fruits such as blackcurrant and blackberry, along with notes of cherry, violet, sweet spices, and a subtle, well-integrated oak influence.
On the palate, Haut-Bailly II 2020 stands out for its balance, silky texture, and fine, well-structured tannins. The overall profile is harmonious, with fresh acidity and an elegant, persistent finish.
Already enjoyable in its youth, this second wine faithfully reflects the refined and precise style of Pessac-Léognan, while offering good ageing potential.
Located on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, Château Haut-Bailly is one of the most iconic estates of the Graves region. Classified as a Grand Cru Classé of Graves, it is renowned for producing wines of great elegance, combining finesse, balance and depth.
The estate’s history dates back to the 17th century. Over generations and through successive ownerships, it has built a strong international reputation and become one of Bordeaux’s benchmark producers.
The vineyard covers approximately 30 hectares, planted mainly with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and a small proportion of Cabernet Franc. The vines are rooted in typical Graves soils, composed of deep gravel mixed with clay-gravel, ideally suited for the production of long-ageing wines.
Since its acquisition by the Wilmers family, the estate has undergone significant modernisation while preserving its historical identity. Vineyard and cellar work focus on precision, respect for living ecosystems, and a faithful expression of each parcel.
The wines of Château Haut-Bailly are distinguished by their refinement, silky texture and remarkable balance. They combine structure and elegance, with excellent ageing potential and a consistently high level of quality.
